Your first clothing mod

Use a desktop browser with WebGL enabled. The exporter targets Project Zomboid build 42.20.4. It creates a local mod ZIP; it does not upload to Steam Workshop.

  1. Open Clothing Studio and choose a clothing base.
  2. Paint on the texture and check the live character preview. Try both body types.
  3. Use Save project backup to keep an editable copy of your layers. Recovery drafts are also saved on this device.
  4. Choose Export item, select the clothing type, enter a name, and save your clothing.
  5. Open Exported clothing, select the pieces to include, and choose Create mod.
  6. Build your mod and download its ZIP as soon as it is ready.
  7. Extract the mod folder into Zomboid/mods, enable it in the game’s Mods menu, and follow the ZIP’s INSTALL.txt instructions.

What is supported?

The current export profiles are T-shirt, shirt, tights, shoes, socks, and leather gloves. Browser previews and generated files need testing in your game version; multiplayer compatibility has not yet been verified in a live server.

Keep your work safe

Your artwork stays in this browser. Clearing browser data or changing domain can remove access to it. Download project and collection backups before doing either. Open Your clothing, then Recovery drafts & backups to recover drafts or open a backup.

Recovery preserves layers and export refinement. Undo history starts from the recovered version. Imported collection backups add copies and keep existing clothing.

If something goes wrong

Download a backup before refreshing. Use “Report a problem” and describe the step, browser, and what happened. Please keep passwords and private information out of the report.
